Handheld Auto-Refractor/Keratometer
The NIDEK Auto Ref/Keratometer ARK-30 is an objective refraction measurement device that contains the functions for measuring refractive errors such as spherical power, cylindrical power, and cylinder axis and the functions for measuring corneal shapes such as the corneal curvature radius (corneal refractive power), angle of meridian, and corneal cylindrical power. The measured value of refractive errors are mainly used as the reference of the lens prescription for correction of visual acuity in spectacle and contact lenses. It is also used to observe the corneal curvature radius necessary for setting the refractive power of intraocular lens that will be implanted after cataract surgery and the change process of the postoperative corneal shape after corneal surgery. This device is a hand-held type that allows children who cannot fix their head on the stationary chinrest and lying patients to be measured. As well as the compact station, the device can be easily moved, which makes the measurement possible in a sick room or operating room where the measurement is not possible with the stationary type. The device consists of a measuring unit and a station. The station is provided with a power supply, a charger, and a printer to print the measured results. The measuring unit is provided with a color LCD monitor and a control panel, etc. to perform alignment and operation. To make the measurements easier, an auto-shot function is available, which will start the measurement automatically when the patient’s eye is aligned and focused. The built-in RS-232C interface also allows you to output data to a personal computer.

- Compact Station: Even the docking station is compact. The desktop footprint is only 9.8″(W) x 8.7″(D).
- Data Memory up to 30 persons: Data for up to 30 persons (60 eyes) are stored in the main body. Measurement data can be printed out later.
- Wireless Communication: Infrared wireless communication connects the main body to the station printer, eliminating troublesome cord connection.
- Accurate & Speedy Measurement: A newly developed three meridian phase difference measuring technique is adopted to attain accurate and speedy measurement.
- Auto Shot: Both centering (XY direction) and focusing (Z direction) can be detected. The measurement starts automatically when the eye is in the optimal position.
- Right/Left Auto Detection: The Right/Left (R/L) eye being measured is detected automatically. The data is automatically determined to be R/L to prevent accidental omission of measuring the other eye.
- Clear Monitor Display: The 2.5inch color LCD allows comfortable operation at a nonintrusive distance between physician and patient.
- Built-in Forehead Rest: The built-in forehead rest stabilizes the instrument for easier alignment (aiming).
- Simple Battery-Charging System: The fully charged high performance lithium ion battery can be used for approx. 60 minutes. Insert it into the battery slot
located on the side of the station for easy recharging. (Charging time: approx.120minutes) *The battery in the measurement unit can be also recharged by connecting the measurement unit to the station with a power cord. Also, the ARK-30 can be used without a battery, if it ever dies or is accidentally lost, by using the communication cable during operation. - Reliable Measurement Accuracy: A corneal curvature radius of 5.00 to 13.00 mm can be measured. The measurement data can be displayed in 0.01 mm increments and 0.12 / 0.25 D increments for corneal curvature radius and corneal refractive power, respectively.
